What to see in Petra
Petra is a beautiful traditional village by the sea, with houses built with stones, gardens and picturesque alleys.
Interesting sight sees:
The church of Saint Nikolas
On the left side of the road that leads to the church of Panayia Glykofilousa, and on a lower level of the road, is the Church of Saint Nikolas.
It was built in the 16th century, and it belongs to the type of one-room basilica, it has a wood carved temple and has interesting frescos.
The floor is with stones 42×42 cm.
The church of Panayia Glykofilousa
In the centre of Petra, elevates an impressive rock of almost 40 meters, on the top of which the church of Panayia Glykofiloysa is built.
The 114 carved steps on the rock lead to the church with the miraculous icon of Panayia Glykofilousa, with the wood carved temple and the bishops’ throne.
The panoramic view is most impressive!
Vareltzidenas mansion
This mansion was built at the second half of the 18th century, at the rhythm of the westmacedonian type of houses. The first floor is built with stones and was mostly used as a storage place, and the second floor was built with wood and it hosted all the activities of the house, with a big central living room.
The frescoes are most impressive, with flowers and towns by the sea.

In Petras’ square, the visitor can enjoy coffee, pastry, fine meals at the restaurants and taverns and also can go souvenir shopping at the agora.
